Short bio:

The work of Anat Ben-David follows the tradition of Performance as Art practice.
Whether the work process ends in a song/sound piece, a video, a performance/gig collage, it is the result of a direct interaction between the body/voice and an audience (or potential audience).
The process usually starts with a concept leading to text/song followed by a sound performance piece, a song that develops into a video, collage or/and an installation.

Anat is a London Based, pioneering Video and Performing artist from Israel. Started her experimental theatre pieces at the School Of Visual Theatre in Jerusalem, developing her work in Habama theatre in Jerusalem, resulting in 7 fringe theatre pieces, amongst them The End (2004) and Mouth (1996).

In 2003 Ben-David graduated from Goldsmiths college (MA fine arts), her final “Popaganda project” made comparisons between power structures and symbolism in the pop world and fascist politics. “Popaganda project” was awarded the purchase prise 2003.

Popaganda included a video installation, a solo independent album, a live performance and live political action performance (Hugo Boss Party 2003) following Popaganda Anat then decided to move away from the traditional gallery space into the world of electro pop, she then proceeded with touring and collaborating with the Art band “ Chicks On Speed”, writing performing and developing an collective Art pop performance group with Douglass Gordon (Art Rules Crew 2006-8) as well as releasing her solo album “Virtual Leisure” in 2008.

Along side the group work, Anat has continued developing, performing and exhibiting her own solo work.

Anat is a wonderful performer… part Laibach, a dash of Einsturzende Neubauten, add a touch of Marlene Dietrich and Doris Day, marinate it in a freezer with Busby Berkeley, Pina Bausch and Valie Export, et voila! That's what the image of her shows at that time... it's accurate, believe me. As for me trying to squeeze my tiny ego into a portrait by Rankin, well, the results speak for themselves. If in any doubt, please call 999 and ask for the fire service."
